Preparing For Your Newborn Session

  • Dressing the baby

Dress your baby in a single layer of clothing that is easy to undress. This will allow for seamless transitions between outfits and wraps during the session.

  • Gassy baby care

If your baby tends to experience gas discomfort, consider administering gripe water after consulting with your pediatrician. This can help alleviate any discomfort during the session.

  • Burping routine

If your baby spits up frequently, ensure that you pause during feeds to burp them more frequently. This can help minimize spit-ups during the session and keep your baby comfortable.

  • Feeding schedule

For in-home sessions, give your baby a full feed as soon as the photographer arrives. A well-fed baby is more likely to be content and cooperative during the session. I will stop for baby feeds. Consider bottle-feeding if possible for the session. This will help in keeping the baby happy during poses.

  • Warm bath

If possible, give your baby a warm bath approximately 2 hours before the scheduled session time. A bath can help relax your baby and prepare them for the photography session ahead.

  • Baby essentials

For in-studio sessions, remember to bring all essential items for your baby, including diapers, wet wipes, burp cloths, pacifiers, blanket, hair brush and any other items your baby may need during the session.

  • Baby Skin

Don’t worry if your baby has recently developed baby acne or flaky skin. This is normal for babies and there is no need to reschedule! Most babies I take pictures of have these things and it won’t affect your final photos. All these things can be edited including jaundice!

  • Including Siblings

To ensure a smooth and enjoyable newborn session, we recommend that siblings, especially those who are toddlers or younger, attend only the first part of the session. Once their portion is complete, it would be ideal for them to be taken on a fun outing, such as a drive or a trip to the park. This way, they won't get bored and potentially disrupt the session, allowing for a more relaxed and focused environment for capturing those precious newborn moments.

  • Session Length

Sessions can sometimes last up to 4 Hours. Please don’t schedule anything after your session in case the session runs longer than expected.

  • In-Home Sessions Note

Please ensure that the path to your front door is clear and not blocked by large objects or cars parked close to the door in the driveway. This will help me bring essential items for the session into the home.

  • Family Photos

Family photos are usually done at the start of the session, so please make sure that you’re ready for photos at arrival. This will make for a better flow during the session and will allow for ample time for the baby-only portion of the session. Please also ensure that the location we will be taking photos at is clear of objects in the background that may show up in photos.

  • Relax and enjoy

Finally, remember to relax and enjoy the experience! Your photographer is experienced in working with newborns and will take care to ensure that your baby is comfortable and safe throughout the session.

Mom

Simple dress in a neutral color or creamy tone. Flowy or fitted styles work well. Alternatively, pair a neutral-colored or creamy top with jeans. Look for tops with subtle textures like lace or knit.

What to wear

Dad

Button-down shirt in pastel colors. Avoid busy prints, stripes, or plaids. Alternatively, a plain black or white shirt can create a clean and classic look when paired with jeans.

Siblings

Boys can mimic Dad's outfit by wearing a similar button-down shirt in pastel tones paired with jeans. Girls can wear a simple dress in a neutral color or creamy tone.

Poses to expect

I will typically incorporate at least 3 of the following poses during the session. Please note that I can not guarantee a specific pose- this depends entirely on your baby’s temperament.
